Citano vs “llms.txt & schema” apps
Some Shopify apps promise AI visibility by auto-generating an llms.txt file, product schema and FAQ blocks. Those outputs can have legitimate uses, but official guidance does not support selling them as guaranteed AI-citation shortcuts.

| Citano | llms.txt / schema apps | |
|---|---|---|
| Headline output | Evidence-dense page rewrites & comparison pages | llms.txt, JSON-LD schema, FAQ blocks, meta text |
| Evidence boundary | Uses evidence-led formats as experiments, not guarantees | No general AI-citation benefit established for these outputs |
| Sells llms.txt as a citation booster | No — we reject it openly | Yes — it's the headline feature |
| Reviewable one-click drafts | Yes — you approve every change | Varies; often auto-written |
| Primary value | Measurement plus reviewable page improvements | Technical files, markup and generated content |
What you're really buying
These apps commonly package an llms.txt file, JSON-LD product schema, generated FAQ content and metadata. That can be convenient if those are the exact deliverables you need.
But output is not proof of an AI recommendation. Google says no special AI file or markup is required for its generative Search features. Supported structured data can still help Search understand visible page content and determine rich-result eligibility, while other AI systems may choose to use llms.txt. None of those facts creates a universal citation guarantee.
What Citano does instead
Citano starts with an observed buyer question and answer, then prepares evidence-led improvements to relevant pages and honest comparison drafts. Research supports testing clearer sourcing, quotations and statistics in the conditions studied; it does not guarantee that every engine will recommend a store.
We do not sell llms.txt, schema or FAQ output as guaranteed citation boosters. Every Citano store change remains a reviewable draft, never a silent write.
When a cheap llms.txt app is the better choice
If you mainly need help producing technical files, supported product markup or useful customer FAQs, a focused app may be the simpler choice. Evaluate each output for its real purpose rather than treating it as proof that an AI system will recommend your store.
Evidence boundary: Google Search Central says no special AI file or markup is required for its AI features, and supported structured data must match visible content. Other systems may choose to use llms.txt. Research findings are scoped to their tested conditions and are not universal ranking rules.
